Chandigarh: Punjab Congress leaders on Monday hit out at chief minister Bhagwant Mann for his jibe against party leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing the former of toeing the BJP line.

Mann had on Sunday remarked that Rahul Gandhi was not cut out to be a leader. Slamming Mann, state Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and leader of opposition (LoP) Partap Singh Bajwa accused him of echoing the BJP lines.

Bajwa took to X and said: “Rahul Gandhi walked 4,080 km in Bharat Jodo Yatra to unite India and fight for the poor and minorities, while Punjab drowns in drugs and despair under your #6pmNoCM watch- unfulfilled promises and skipped Budget Sessions. @RahulGandhi robustly defends the constitution in Parliament; you hide from questions, echoing @BJP4India lines. Chandrayaan soared, but your booze-fueled leadership stays grounded. Look at your dawn-to-dusk failures before mocking @INCIndia’s LoP.’’

Warring also assailed Mann stating that he (Mann) had enrolled himself in the BJP’s “troll army’’ as another foot soldier.

He also said on X: “Sad that Sardar @BhagwantMann has completely enrolled himself into the @BJP4India `troll army’ as another foot soldier. It is an acknowledged fact that Mann Sahab takes diktats from the union @HMOIndia, Amit Shah. After unleashing ruthless reign of terror on farmers, now our CM Sahab has gone a step further by trying to be `more loyal than the King’. He is not only doing what he is being asked to do, he seems to have volunteered himself for going an extra mile to please and appease the BJP. As @AamAadmiParty and its Punjab offshoot @AAPPunjab turn to be the BJP’s B-team, Mann Sahab seems to have lined up as one of the “reserve’’ players! May be, he has some unexplained compulsions to target @RahulGandhi without any reason. “Kuchh toh majbooriyan rahi hongi, yu he koi be-wafa nahi hota…’’.

Mann had on Sunday said that Rahul is not cut out to be a leader as he does not have that quality. Stating that God has not given him that, he asked why he is being pushed to become a leader. It is not like a family fiefdom that after father his son takes the charge, Mann said. “Please leave him. Poor guy. He is very sad about where he has got stuck’’, Mann had quipped.

Once part of INDIA bloc, Congress and AAP had joined hands to fight together the Lok Sabha polls in Delhi last year, though had fallen apart in the subsequent assembly polls in Haryana and Delhi.
