Farmers who are continuously protesting for guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) have announced Punjab Bandh on 30th December. This bandh will be organized under the banner of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti. Committee leader Shravan Singh Pandher informed that this bandh is receiving wide support from various groups and organizations.

Pandher, while talking to the media at Khannauri border, said that the bandh will be effective from 7 am to 4 pm on December 30. During this period, government and private offices in the state will remain closed. Besides, rail and road traffic will also be affected. The aim of the bandh is to put pressure on the central government to take concrete steps on other farmer issues including guarantee of minimum support price.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s attack on the central government
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched a scathing attack on the central government for ignoring the demands of farmers. He said that the Center should leave its stubborn attitude and talk with the farmers. Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister said,
“If he can stop the war between Russia and Ukraine, why can’t he talk to farmers sitting 200 kilometers away?”

“The central government should give up its old stubbornness. It is necessary to open the way for communication with farmer organizations. A cat does not run away when a pigeon winks. It is incomprehensible what austerity the central government is doing.”
Protests continued for 328 days
The protest under the leadership of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti is continuing from 13 February 2024 at Khannauri border of Sangrur district near Haryana border. The protesters demand that a law be made to guarantee the minimum support price. Along with this, steps also need to be taken to solve other farmer problems.
This demonstration of farmers is part of the strategy to put pressure on the government and get their demands met.
