Pune Police Propose ₹70 Crore Plan to Boost Security on City Hills Following Recent Crimes | Anand Chaini

Days after the gang rape at Bopdev Ghat and a robbery incident on Baner Hill, which prompted residents to call for increased vigilance on the hills of the city and surrounding areas, Pune Police have now proposed a ₹70 crore plan to enhance security infrastructure on the hills. This plan highlights 13 areas across the city that require attention and heightened vigilance.

Areas such as Hanuman Tekdi, Taljai Tekdi, Sutardara Tekdi, Juna Bogda Ghat, and Baner Tekdi, along with other sensitive locations, are included in the plan, with more areas likely to be added.

Features of the plan

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated that the facial recognition cameras will be used to identify known criminals and send immediate alerts to the Control Room.

The proposed actions include deploying advanced cameras equipped with PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) capabilities, ANPR (automatic number plate recognition), night vision, and infrared lighting. Additionally, emergency call boxes with audio-video systems will allow instant notifications to the Command-and-Control Centre and patrol units, capturing critical footage before and after the SOS button is pressed. The integration of drones, smart floodlights, loudspeakers, and facial recognition technology will further enhance surveillance in these areas.
