Pune Metro has quickly become one of the most preferred modes of transport for Punekars. The year 2025 started on a high note, with Pune Metro recording an impressive ridership of 49,69,224 in January alone, averaging 1,60,139 passengers per day.
Sharing the update on X (formerly Twitter), Pune Metro said it has become the first choice of millions of commuters. “Traffic-free, time-saving and eco-friendly travel has now become an integral part of the daily lives of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad residents. Pune Metro is moving forward rapidly because of the trust of passengers – thanks to Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwadkars,” read the post.
The numbers are likely to see a boost in February as the Pune Metro has extended its timings until 11pm from January 26 onwards. This came after commuters persistently demanded the extension of operating hours. Earlier, the metro ran from 6am to 10pm on both routes — the Purple Line (Pimpri-Chinchwad to Swargate) and the Aqua Line (Ramwadi to Vanaz).
After the announcement, Maha Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar said, “Keeping in mind the increasing usage of Pune Metro and the demand from passengers, we have increased passenger service. This will greatly benefit citizens who go home late from work at night. It will provide citizens with a public transport option that reaches on time and is safe.”
