Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar visited the house of a traffic cop and also felicitated him for performing his duty extremely well, according to a post shared on the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of Pune City Police on Monday.
The incident
On Sunday evening, an intoxicated person was beating a senior citizen in the Hadapsar area. When this happened, traffic police officer Raju Shivaji Pawar of Hadapsar Traffic Department intervened and stopped him. Out of anger, the accused assaulted Pawar as well. The man was immediately arrested by the police. The incident occurred near Magarpatta on Raskar Chowk, where the Hadapsar Traffic Police were managing traffic and taking action against drivers for driving on the wrong side. The video of the assault quickly went viral on social media, with many calling for action against the man.
CP’s Appreciation
Kumar visited Pawar’s residence and appreciated him for helping the senior citizen. Pawar was also honoured by the police. “Police and citizens are parts of society. Citizens are also plainclothes police. Everyone should be vigilant about our city. However, if anyone raises his hands on a police officer who is performing his duty, strict action will be taken against them,” the post read.
