Pune Cops Gear Up For New Year Celebrations With Strict Drink-And-Drive Campaign |
Pune, known as a vibrant destination to celebrate the New Year, offers a mix of quiet nights by camps near lakes and lively pub parties. As the countdown to the New Year begins, the administration is geared up for celebrations. Along with the city police, the role of rural police becomes equally crucial, as popular celebration spots like Mulshi, Lonavala, Paud, Bhugaon, and Velhe fall under Pune Rural Police jurisdiction.
Pune Rural SP Pankaj Deshmukh on Sudnay, said, “A large number of tourists flock here on December 31, and the district police administration has made full preparations to ensure their safety. I urge all tourists to celebrate responsibly and refrain from illegal activities. The district administration will take strict action against drink and drive offenses. Once again, I appeal to everyone to celebrate the New Year in a responsible manner.”
In line with the New Year celebrations, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) and Pune Traffic Police have launched a campaign to crack down on drink and drive violations, running until December 31. Random checks will be conducted to detect intoxicated drivers using breath analyzer machines at various locations. Additionally, the campaign will target underage drivers. Barricades and checkposts will be set up at key locations, ensuring the effectiveness of this initiative.
Additionally, Pune restaurants, bars, and hotels will remain open until 5am on New Year this year, providing extended hours to accommodate celebrations.
Additionally, wine shops in Pune will be allowed to stay open until 1am during these festive occasions. This decision aims to support the city’s vibrant festive spirit and provide convenience to revellers celebrating the holidays.
Speaking to The Free Press Journal, Excise Superintendent Charan Singh Rajput said, “The time for restaurants, bars, and wine shops has been extended for 31, 2024.”
