Azamgarh: A wave of violent protests erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh on March 31, following the suspicious death of 28-year-old Rinku while he was in police custody. Rinku, detained for allegedly making indecent remarks towards a girl, was found deceased, hanging in the police station’s bathroom.

While the police assert that the death was a suicide, Rinku’s family alleges custodial murder. The incident triggered a violent backlash, with a local mob attacking the police station, vandalising vehicles, and engaging in stone-pelting. The police resorted to lathi-charge to take control of the situation.

Several videos of the altercation went viral on social media. Have a look at it here:

As per reports, the deceased’s family members have disputed the police’s suicide claim, questioning how such an incident could occur within the confines of a police station under constant supervision.

The dissemination of this news cause immediate public outrage, leading to a large-scale protest outside the police station. Demonstrators voiced their grievances against the administration, and the protest quickly turned violent.
