Women Lawyer Reservation: The Supreme Court has ordered 30 percent reservation for women lawyers in the Executive Committee of all Bar Association of the state, including the Gujarat High Court Advocates Association, through an important order. Along with this, it has also been ordered to reserve the important post of treasurer in all bar associations only for women lawyers. Supreme Court Justice Suryakant and Justice N. A bench of Kotishwar Singh passed this order on a petition seeking 33 percent reservation for women lawyers in various bar associations of Gujarat and Gujarat Bar Council elections.

Women will get adequate representation.

It is noteworthy that the Supreme Court, while disposing of this petition, said that the issue of 33 percent reservation for women lawyers in Gujarat Bar Council and Bar Council of India will be considered later. A petition filed by the Gujarat High Court female lawyer Meena Jagtap in the Supreme Court alleged that proper or adequate reservation for women is not given in various bar associations in the state of Gujarat and Gujarat Bar Council. Indeed, even though the constitution gives equal rights to women, women are still behaved neglectful. According to the relevant decision of the Supreme Court, the benefit of 33 percent reservation provision is not given.

Violation of constitution

In addition, the absence of reservation for women in various bar associations and bar councils is also a violation of Articles 14, 15 and 16 of the Constitution of India.

It is particularly important to try to end all types of discrimination against women. On the other hand, while the number of women lawyers in the state of Gujarat is increasing day by day and they are coming forward by registering as advocates, there is a lack of representation of women in various posts in various bar associations and Gujarat Bar Council.

52nd Chief Justice of India: Justice BR Gawai took charge

Appropriate reservation is necessary.

The Supreme Court has issued orders regarding reservation for women lawyers in cases filed by the Supreme Court Bar Association, Delhi, Karnataka, Bangalore and other bar associations. Therefore, in the case of the state of Gujarat, it is also necessary that sufficient, appropriate and rational reservation should be given to women lawyers. After hearing all the arguments, the Supreme Court ordered that reservation be made mandatory.
