Liquor ban in Bihar: Making a serious comment on the prohibition law of Bihar, Patna High Court has canceled the demotion order issued against a police inspector. The court said, ‘The prohibition law is promoting smuggling of liquor and other illegal goods in Bihar. The Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, 2016 was enacted by the state government with the aim of improving the standard of living of the citizens and public health, but this law has gone down the wrong path of history due to many reasons.
According to reports, Justice Purnendu Singh delivered the verdict on October 29 and the verdict was uploaded on the High Court website on November 13. This decision of the court has come in response to the petition filed by Mukesh Kumar Paswan.
‘Police are earning a lot of money’
Justice Purnendu Singh said in the judgment, ‘Officials of police, excise, state commercial tax and transport departments welcome the ban as it is a source of revenue for them. Very little action is taken against big people or syndicate managers involved in liquor smuggling. Cases are registered against poor people who drink alcohol or are victims of spurious liquor. This law has mainly troubled the poor people of the state.
