The news of the kidnapping of the son of former state minister and Shinde faction MLA Tanaji Sawant created a stir in political circles on Monday. However, in reality, Tanaji Sawant’s son was not kidnapped, but information came to light that he had gone to Bangkok with his friends.
Hours after police filed a kidnapping case, Rishiraj, the son of former Maharashtra minister Tanaji Sawant, was taken back to Pune late Monday night with two companions, ending their trip to Bangkok amid much drama, sources said.
Although the curtain has fallen on this ‘kidnapping’ drama, the details of this case are currently being discussed in political circles. Tanaji Sawant’s son Rishiraj Sawant went to Lohegaon airport in Pune in a Swift car around 4:30 pm on Monday evening. From there, Rishiraj Sawant left for Bangkok with his friends in a chartered plane.
After police registered a kidnapping case following the anonymous call made to the control room, his whereabouts were traced and he was brought back to Pune along with his friends, he said at a hurriedly convened press conference.

Spent whooping Rs 78 Lakh
Police have informed that Rishiraj Sawant spent a whopping Rs 78 lakh for this Bangkok trip. Rishiraj Sawant’s plane had reached Andaman and Nicobar. However, after the chaos in Pune, the air traffic control (ATC) was contacted, and the chartered plane was forced to land in Chennai. After that, the rest of the passengers got off the plane, and the plane landed at Pune’s Lohegaon airport around 9 pm.
Tanaji Sawant spoke to the media about all this. He said that there was no argument between Rishiraj and me. “We chatted at night. Rishiraj even performed Rudrabhishek in the morning. After that, we went to our respective work. Rishiraj had gone to Dubai eight days ago. Then I wondered how he suddenly went to Bangkok again. We used to talk on the phone many times during the day. Then I did not understand why he suddenly went to the airport. That is why we were ‘worried.’ His friends were with him. But whether he did not tell me anything out of fear that Pappa would get angry, we will know after he speaks,” Tanaji Sawant told the media.
According to Ranjan Kumar Sharma, joint commissioner of police, Rishiraj Sawant (32) and his two friends had booked a chartered plane for Bangkok, but an anonymous call spoilt their travel plans.
