34 Passengers Narrowly Escape As Private Bus Catches Fire Near Kolad In Raigad On Mumbai-Goa Highway; Incident Occurred On Sunday Midnight | Screengrab X video/ FPJ
A total of 34 passengers travelling to Malvan had a lucky escape after the private bus in which they were travelling, caught fire. The private passenger that was going towards Malvan caught fire near Kolad on the Mumbai-Goa Highway. The incident took place at around 11 45pm on Saturday.
According to police, no casualties were reported but the bus and the belongings of the passengers were completely charred. On learning about the fire, the firefighting teams from Dhatav MIDC, Deepak Nitrate Company, Kolad Rescue Team, and the police worked together to control the fire.
“There were 34 passengers, including the driver and cleaner, on board the bus. The AC sleeper coach bus of a private travels had started from Jogeshwari, Mumbai, heading towards Malvan. As the bus approached the Kolad railway bridge, a loud noise came from the rear. The driver stopped the vehicle and found that the rear of the bus was on fire. He immediately evacuated all the passengers. After that, the fire spread rapidly,” a police officer from Kolad police station said.
Assistant police inspector Nitin Mohite from Kolad police station said, “We have reported the incident in the police station diary and have informed RTO as well. After they inspect the vehicle, the reason behind fire would be know. The bus was just about two years old.”
