The inauguration of the second largest ISKCON temple constructed in Kharghar was done by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 15.
Dr Sura das, President and temple trustee of Kharghar Iskcon welcomed the Prime Minister as lover of cows and a one of its kind leader in the modern times.
The PM offered his prayers to the statue of founder of ISKCON Swami Srila Prabhupad. He was then taken to the prayer hall wherein he performed aarti and partook in the ceremonial rituals as directed by the head priest.
At 4.50 amidst the reverberating chants of Hare Rama hare Krishna sung by the devotees, the PM held his public address wherein the temple architecture, the vision behind having the temple, the manner in which ISKCON presents the true form of Sanatan dharma was heralded. The Hare Rama Hare Krishna Movement was stated to depict the true form of Bhagavad Gita.
The project titled as the Glory of Maharashtra and spread over 9 acres of land is a Vedic educational and cultural centre that is stated to teach the Sanathan way of living.

“The inauguration of the Sri Sri Radha Madhan mohan temple is purely the result of the efforts put in by ISKCOn. It is my sheer good fortune that I have got the amazing opportunity to play a role in the temple’s opening,” said the prime minister.
The temple structure was termed to depict the proper mix of spirituality and scientific thinking. “ This temple depicts secularism in its truest form as it is not only promoting religion but also a spiritual centre which will bring in participation from you. The founder of ISKCON has single handedly prompted ,” he said.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by the chief minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis and deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde. The other prominent dignitaries were MP Hema Malini and Governor CP Radhakrishnan. Constructed at the cost of over 170 crores the temple is set to be used in an era of spiritual consciousness along with the will to be engaged in community services in the city.
Prominent business personalities, Ashok Hinduja and Shashi Kiran Shetty, Founder and Chairman, Allcargo Group who lead the steering committee as chairman and vice chairman, respectively, have been closely associated with the process of building the temple, guided by the vision to make a larger societal impact. “Their determination and devotion to the cause have contributed to the development of the temple which captures the country’s cultural, spiritual and wellness heritage,” said a representative of the steering committee.
The first darshan for the public will be available at 4.30 am on Thursday, January 16
