Nipita, New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the head of Myanmar’s military government, Min Aung Having and expressed grief over the damage of heavy life and property in his country and assured him of his condolences.
The Prime Minister had assured all possible help on this huge loss in the neighboring country on social media platform ‘T’.
He wrote: We are very sad with this devastating earthquake. In this crisis, we are standing with our neighboring country.
To assist Myanmar, India has sent relief equipment, human assistance such as drugs, food items and medical teams to the earthquake affected area under ‘Operation Brahma’.
About 15 tonnes of equipment etc. have been distributed under this program.
Shocks were also felt after a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar on Friday afternoon. As a result, about 1,002 civilians were killed as buildings collapsed. Many people were injured. The death toll is still likely to increase.
Relief workers have found 2,376 injured and 1,002 bodies under the debris and large pieces that fell from it. There is a possibility that more bodies will be found.
The focal point of the earthquake on Friday was just a short distance from Mandla. After this, many shocks were felt, one of which was 6.4. Many houses collapsed as a result of this earthquake. Roads broke, the bridge collapsed. Some dams were also broken. Relief work is going on in the capital Nipita since Friday evening and especially from Saturday.
Many cities across the country stalled electricity, phones and internet services.
Earthquake tremors were also felt in the neighboring country Thailand. People of Bangkok and surrounding cities, which have a population of 17 million, left their homes.
Heavy machinery is being used to remove ruins from Saturday itself. The northern and northwest parts (which are bordering Myanmar) have suffered more damage. Many houses, hospitals etc. have been damaged in Chiang Mai city, but the death toll is not known.
