Raipur: President Droupadi Murmu, while addressing the silver jubilee celebration of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly in Raipur, commended the House for its exemplary democratic practices. She praised its unique rule of automatic suspension for members entering the well during proceedings, emphasizing the discipline that has ensured the Marshall has never been required in the Assembly’s 25-year history.

Highlighting the assembly’s progressive outlook, President Murmu lauded the inclusion of 19 female legislators in the 90-member House and expressed joy over the fact that the number of women voters in Chhattisgarh has surpassed that of men.

She applauded the state’s significant strides in empowering women and encouraged women MLAs to support others in their journey, stating, “Whether as teachers, officers, social workers, entrepreneurs, scientists, artists, laborers, or farmers, women often carve their paths while balancing household responsibilities. When women empower one another, society becomes stronger and more sensitive.”

The President also spoke about Chhattisgarh’s vast developmental potential, particularly in industries like cement, minerals, steel, aluminum, and power generation. She urged policymakers to ensure that environmental conservation accompanies economic progress and called for inclusive development that benefits all sections of society.

President Murmu recalled the contributions of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and former MP Minimata, recognizing their pivotal roles in public welfare. She also spoke about the shared historical and cultural connections between Chhattisgarh and Odisha, remarking, “We consider Raipur a part of Odisha. Lord Jagannath is not just the deity of Odisha but belongs to everyone. Odisha shares a special bond with Chhattisgarh.”

The Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, she said, has set a remarkable standard of parliamentary conduct, not just for India but for democratic institutions around the world. She extended her best wishes for the state’s future and its commitment to progress and unity.
