Preparations towards implementing “one country, one election” in the country have intensified. Taking important steps, the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), constituted on this issue, has decided to call the Election Commission officials and heads of all political parties for the meeting. These will take opinion on the Constitution Amendment Bill, so that the process of implementing it can be carried forward.

Regional parties will also be discussed

It has become clear that JPC will not only be limited to paper meetings, but will also take their opinion from regional parties by visiting states across the country. It is believed that many regional parties may have objections on “one country, one election”, which will be tried to overcome. In addition, JPC is planning to include former Supreme Court judges and various public sector companies in the discussion.

Addressing both houses of Parliament on Friday, President Draupadi Murmu said that the government is rapidly carrying on the significant reforms of “one country, one election”. He said in his address, “One country, the government is working rapidly in the direction of one election. In the last decade, our government has taken steps towards developing India with a new energy. ” Even on the eve of Republic Day, he called it a revolutionary reform and called Good Governance a new definition.

President Murmu said in his address on the idea that a country, one election will continue to continue in governance and resources will be better management. Apart from this, the constant election cycle will also prevent the obstacles in administration and development works. The Modi government has been in favor of “one country, one election” for a long time and believes that the elections at different times increase the administrative, economic and logistic burden.

Former President Ram Nath Kovind also described the “one country, one election” as in line with the original structure of the Constitution. He had said that Lok Sabha and Assembly elections were held simultaneously in India from 1952 to 1967, which makes it clear that this system is not unconstitutional.
