The Railway Board has approved the construction of a state -of -the -art new bridge over the Yamuna river instead of the old bridge.

Features of new bridge

The Railway Board has given its consent on the proposal of Prayagraj division and has approved the necessary budget. The survey of the new bridge has also started, on the basis of which construction will start soon. The estimated length of the new bridge will be around one thousand meters, although some changes are possible after the final survey. This bridge will start from Jeevanjyoti Hospital and go to Shuats near ECC.

Use of latest technology

The new bridge will be of two -lane and will be based on the spherical bearings technology, which will make it more secure and durable against disasters such as earthquakes, cyclones and explosions. This technique is currently widely used in modern railway projects.

Goal to prepare before Kumbh Mela

This bridge has been targeted to be completed before the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela to be held in 2031. The railway administration believes that the new bridge will prove to be very important for the railway connectivity of Prayagraj. The construction of this bridge has become essential along with the construction of the third line on the Mumbai-Prayagraj route.

AdMR Sanjay Singh of Prayagraj division said, “This bridge is extremely important for Prayagraj’s railway network. We will try to complete this bridge ahead of time using the latest techniques.”

Old historical bridge

This bridge, built during British rule in 1865, was banned for heavy vehicles for the last few years, now only light vehicles are using this bridge. Especially in events like Mahakumbh, the need for a new bridge was felt due to the huge crowd.
