Different sections of the country are getting the benefit of many schemes of Narendra Modi government. One such major scheme is Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0), which is being run with the aim of providing affordable housing to urban poor. Recently, the construction of more than 3.53 lakh new houses has been approved under the scheme in the Central Management and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) meeting.

Which states get approval?

A total of 3,52,915 housing units have been approved in 10 states and union territories under PMAY-U 2.0. These states include:

  • Andhra Pradesh

  • Arunachal Pradesh

  • Bihar

  • Haryana

  • Jammu and Kashmir

  • Odisha

  • Puducherry

  • Rajasthan

  • Telangana

  • Uttar Pradesh

Women and transgender community benefits

  • More than 2.67 lakh houses were approved in the name of women, including single women and widows.

  • 90 houses have been reserved for the transgender community.

Additional assistance of Uttar Pradesh government

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced additional financial assistance for the beneficiaries of special categories:

  • Senior citizens above the age of 70 will get assistance of ₹ 30,000.

  • An additional amount of ₹ 20,000 will be provided to unmarried women, widows and women living separately over 40 years.

Scheme being implemented through four vertical

PMAY -U 2.0 is being implemented through four different mediums, so that more and more people can benefit from it:

  1. Beneficiary Book (BLC) – If someone has its own land, the government gives grants to build a house.

  2. Affordable Housing (AHP) in participation – Government and private companies together build houses at affordable rates.

  3. Affordable Fare Housing (ARH) – Affordable rent is provided to migrant laborers and poor.

  4. Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS) – Interest is subsidized on home loans, which reduces EMI.

Central assistance of ₹ 2.50 lakh, who can take advantage?

  • Under this scheme, government assistance of ₹ 2.30 lakh crore is being given with a total investment of ₹ 10 lakh crore.

  • Families of EWS (extremely weaker sections), LIG ​​(low income group) and MIG (Middle Income Group) will get the benefit of this scheme.

  • Families, who do not have a pucca house anywhere in the country, are eligible to buy or build houses.

  • Each beneficiary is given a central assistance of ₹ 2.50 lakh.
