Mumbai: With the arrest of a 60-year-old man, the Powai police have busted a high-profile sex racket, which was allegedly being operated by him through social media. During the action taken on March 13, the accused, Shyamsunder, was nabbed when he brought four budding actresses, including Hindi serial artistes, to a Powai hotel, said the officials.
He charged customers Rs 3 lakh and equally divided the amount between himself and the actresses, they added. The victims have been sent to a rehabilitation centre, while a hunt is on for the racket’s broker, Gaurav.
According to the FIR, the police got a tip-off that Shyamsunder, an Andheri resident, was running the racket through WhatsApp and used to send models and actresses to hotels, guest houses and lodges to meet customers.
Subsequently, the police sent a dummy customer to the sexagenarian, who sought Rs 3 lakh. At 12.30 pm on Thursday, he arrived with the four actresses at a hotel in the Hiranandani area. He later confessed that he ran the online racket, with Gaurav’s help, said the police.
Probe revealed that Shyamsunder’s contacts included several models and actresses. He has been booked under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
