Surat: At least 118 workers of a diamond-cutting unit in Gujarat’s Surat fell ill after consuming contaminated water. Local reports claimed that several workers started complaining of dizziness after drinking the water from a cooler.

A foul smell was also detected from the water cooler. A foul smell was detected from the cooler of the Anub Gems factory, located in the Millennium Complex in the Kapodara area.

The top management was then informed. The condition of the workers who drank water from the cooler started to deteriorate. The police were then informed. During the initial investigation, cops reportedly recovered a packet of celphos, a toxic chemical.

All the affected workers were shifted to nearby hospitals. The police believed that miscreants targeted factory workers by missing the toxic chemicals in the water, reported TV9 Bharatvarsh.

The police have launched a detailed probe into the matter. Cops are scanning the CCTV installed in the area to identify the people who mixed the toxic chemical into the water. A forensic team is also involved in the investigation.

As per reports, around 150 people work in the factory. So far no arrests have been made.
