What did 2024 teach you?

In 2024, I experienced significant personal growth that has influenced me professionally. I learned the importance of understanding the ‘why’ before focusing on the ‘what’. This approach has given me a new perspective on decision-making, where the foundation behind a decision is more significant than the decision itself. I have gained valuable insights by digging down to the root cause and reflecting on why I think a certain way.

This approach applies to both my professional and personal life, as it’s a perspective that influences how I live and make decisions. For instance, in 2024, I faced a challenging decision at work. Instead of immediately jumping to a solution, I took the time to understand the ‘why’ behind the problem and my motivations. This led me to a more thoughtful and effective solution. Regardless of whether the decision is personal or professional, adopting a new angle on decision-making is crucial. So, I would say that what 2024 taught me is to prioritise the ‘why’ behind my thoughts and choices.

What would you like to take with you in 2025?

I want to build on the confidence I gained in 2024 and expand my new perspective on problem-solving and critical thinking in 2025. In the upcoming year, I plan to focus on listening and reading more. This is one of my goals, or we could call it a New Year’s resolution if you like. To achieve this, I plan to set aside specific times each day for reading and actively practice listening without interrupting or formulating a response. I believe I can gain new insights and perspectives that will be valuable in my personal and professional life.

What did 2024 teach you?

Professionally, 2024 reinforced the importance of adaptability and innovation in the education sector. The continued implementation of (National Education Policy) NEP 2020 emphasised the need for a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy, positioning India as a global knowledge leader. It also highlighted the growing significance of vocational education, which equips students with the skills required for an ever-changing job market. Personally, it was a year of learning the value of resilience and embracing change, especially as digital and online education, accelerated by the pandemic, became a more permanent fixture.

The integration of AI into education this year has been a revelation. It shows how technology can make learning more personalised, engaging, and effective for both students and teachers. This has further emphasised the need to stay open to innovation while balancing the human aspect of teaching.

What would you like to take with you in 2025?

Professionally, as we move into 2025, we aim to carry forward the momentum created by NEP 2020, especially in foundational and vocational education. By focusing on practical, hands-on learning and leveraging AI, we can build a future-ready education system that prepares young minds for upcoming opportunities.

On a personal level, the year taught us the importance of staying committed to lifelong learning and embracing technological advancements without losing sight of the core values of education. This balance will remain pivotal as we continue to shape the next generation of learners and educators.

What did 2024 teach you?

As the year ends, I reflect on 2024 with immense gratitude. On the professional front, 2024 was a year of transformation and renewed energy, particularly in the food and beverage sector. People have rediscovered the joy of dining out, embracing experiences that bring them closer to authentic, flavourful cuisines. The “You Only Live Once” mindset has taken centre stage, with diners seeking more than just a meal—they seek moments that connect, inspire, and indulge.

Personally, this year taught me the value of being mindful and embracing the present. It reinforced my belief in the power of manifestation – how aligning one’s intentions with purposeful actions can create incredible outcomes. Each day, I’ve been reminded to be thankful for the simple joys, meaningful relationships, and opportunities that come my way.

What would you like to take with you in 2025?

As we step into 2025, I look forward to carrying forward the invaluable lessons of mindfulness, a growth-oriented mindset, and the transformative power of manifestation that 2024 has taught me. I am determined to nurture a sense of balance and purpose, standing beside those who need support and fostering a leadership approach that inspires and uplifts others.

Professionally, the food and beverage sector continues to be a profound space of learning and impact. It’s heartening to witness how food has the power to bring people together, creating meaningful experiences while celebrating authenticity. At the same time, it’s a stark reminder that so many in our country still lack access to basic sustenance.

This reality has driven me to commit more deeply to initiatives like Dosa for a Cause, a campaign at Maayaa restaurant which is close to my heart. Through this effort, we aim to alleviate hunger and empower local communities, ensuring that the joy of food extends to those who need it the most.

As we embrace 2025, I hope to stay rooted in gratitude, lead with intention, and inspire others to join me in making a difference—both in our journeys and for the communities we are a part of. Together, we can work toward a future where every plate is full and every heart is nourished.

It has made me more hopeful about cancer treatment, especially in the era of immunotherapy and targeted therapy. However, it has also made me realise the mortal nature of our Life. We must acknowledge that we are mortals who have a brief life on this earth.

On the personal front, I have been into Yoga more keenly this year with more practice and also as a volunteer to take Yoga to my hospital staff and increase awareness among patients and the public. What did 2024 teach you?

Ans. I have always believed that our learning process never stops. Despite my 50 years of experience, 2024 has been quite enlightening. One of the major highlights this year was composing music for Samvet, the largest Hindustani classical band, which led to my entry into the Guinness Book of World Records. This achievement reinstated my belief that coordination and teamwork are indispensable when creating harmonious compositions.

This year, I also understood the necessity of adaptability in changing times while staying true to our culture and roots. So, I focused more on learning how to make Indian music and instruments like the bansuri more relatable for aspiring musicians. You may say the realization inspired me to blend traditional styles with symphonic influences to create new avenues for self-expression and exploration.

On a personal level, I have focused on becoming a better guru for my students. My gurus have played an important role in shaping my musical journey and helping me reach where I am today. I intend to be the same guiding force for my students and help them take their musical journey to greater heights.

What would you like to take with you in 2025?

I have several performances and projects lined up in 2025, and I am quite excited about them. Professionally, I am looking forward to presenting a special father-son jugalbandi with Hrishikesh at the Edmonton Raga-Mala Music Society. I believe our performance will be perceived as a celebration of India’s musical heritage and will strengthen the bond between generations of musicians.

I also plan to take my flute to the interiors of India, sharing my passion for music with communities that may not have formal classical training. On a personal level, I wish to perform at the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj on 12 February 2025. The sacred gathering could be a great opportunity to connect with divine saints and sadhus and enrich my spiritual journey.

I would love to learn a new language. Professionally, my focus will be on making KheloMore a long-term impactful company that will be a compelling offering for Indians across our great country.

2024 has been a transformative year for me, filled with challenges and accomplishments. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of staying resilient and adaptable. Life can be unpredictable, but having a positive mindset and surrounding myself with people who uplift me has been a game-changer. On the professional front, I’ve realised how crucial it is to take risks and trust the process. I’ve learned to prioritise self-care and create meaningful moments with family and friends. This year has also reminded me of the value of kindness, not just to others but also to myself—it’s okay to take a step back and breathe when needed.

What did 2024 teach you?

2024 was perhaps the most challenging year of my life, testing my limits and pushing me to confront various personal and professional hurdles. Through these experiences, I learned that Resilience and Patience are not just important but are essential traits for navigating the complexities of life. Nothing can truly be taken for granted, and this realisation has reshaped how I approach my goals and relationships. As an artist, the personal and professional are often tightly interwoven with one affecting the other in both process and content.

What would you like to take with you in 2025?

Looking ahead to 2025, I aim to be more methodical and structured in my endeavours. My focus will be on creating a cohesive body of post-conceptual and multi-disciplinary works that reflect my evolving perspective, artistic practice and core philosophies. At the same time, I want to become more acutely aware of my strengths and use them as a foundation to build on.

Perhaps through 2024, I have stopped looking for meaning in everything and as 2025 approaches, I am more interested in just experiencing every facet that happens to shine my way without burdening it with too much meaning, inherent or projected.
