Indore: Policeman Harassed By Moneylenders, Ends Life   | Cop in debt due to online gaming, makes 4 videos naming harasser

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A 36-year-old police constable, who was heavily in debt due to online gaming, committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance under Aerodrome police station limits on Wednesday.

He was posted in the 1st Battalion and before taking the drastic step, recorded four videos, in which he mentioned the names of the money lenders who were troubling him.

After making the videos, he phoned his family members. During the call, he told his uncle that he had consumed poison. They found him lying near the park in Kalani Nagar. They rushed him to the hospital where he died during treatment.

According to the police, the deceased was identified as Nitesh Verma, a resident of Nageen Nagar.

His uncle Chhagan Verma said that Nitesh had lost money in online gaming and had borrowed from several people as a result. These moneylenders were harassing him and demanding four times the borrowed amount.

They had even recorded a video of him and were threatening to make it viral. Fed up with regular harassment, Nitesh took the drastic step.

Before consuming poison, he called and spoke with all his family members. During one of the calls, he revealed that he had consumed poison. His family started searching for him and found him near a park in Kalani Nagar.

He was vomiting and in a critical condition and rushed to MY Hospital, where he died during treatment. The police have seized his mobile phone for investigation.

Moneylenders demanded four times the amount

According to the family, Nitesh had borrowed around Rs 1 lakh due to online gaming. He had already paid back about Rs 5 lakh, but the moneylenders were still demanding four times the original amount.

He had been regularly making payments, but they had recorded a video and were blackmailing him over it. This wasn’t the first time he fell into debt due to online gaming.

His family had previously helped him pay off debts, but he got trapped again. Recently, he had taken Rs 5 lakh and the moneylenders were demanding four times the amount..

Told uncle: ‘I can’t take it anymore’

The family members said that Nitesh had been under stress for the past few days. During his final calls to family members, he told his uncle, “I can’t take it anymore.” He had been very troubled. Nitesh had been in the police force for 10 years and is survived by his parents, wife and an 8-year-old son
