Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A special heritage walk was organised on Sunday for the trainees of Police Training College in which around 150 trainees participated. The walk started from Indore Plant Institute on to Daly College, Thuggi Jail (Silliman Line), through District Jail and ended at Residency.

In the presence of superintendent of police in charge Sunita Rawat and under the guidance of Saumya Jain additional superintendent of police (Training) PTC Indore and deputy superintendent of police Anil Kumar Verma, trainees were told about the history of Malwa Bhil Paltan by the city historian Zafar Ansari.

He informed that a big contribution was given by Maharaja Tukoji Rao Holkar II for the construction of Malwa Bhil Paltan and many original documents related to Malwa Bhil Paltan were also shown. The students were also informed in detail how the compost was made in Indore Plant Institute, established in 1924.

On reaching Daly College, interesting information was given about the remarkable work done by Henry Dormant Daly on education in Indore and the establishment of Daly College. Along with this, many documents and materials from the time of inauguration of Daly College were shown.

On reaching Thugi Jail, a book written by William Henry Silliman on Thugi and the remarkable work done to prevent Thugi and Dacoity in Malwa and Central India were also highlighted. Indore’s Thugi Jail was later named after William Henry Silliman as Silliman Lines.

The last stop of the heritage walk was the Residency via the District Jail. At the Residency Kothi which was a witness to the great revolution of 1857, Ansari explained in detail about the martyrs Bakhtawar Singh and Saadat Khan and their companions.

Also, interesting information was given about how the British established their foothold in Central India by building the Residency. Along with this, information was given about the establishment of police and the construction of jails in the Holkar state. Historian Zafar Ansari showed many ancient documents and police-related material from his personal collection and many materials during the walk.
