Amidst the preparations for the Republic Day celebrations and assembly elections in the national capital Delhi, the police has implemented a strict checking system. Late Tuesday night, Rs 47 lakh was recovered from a vehicle in Sangam Vihar area of South Delhi. The police had stopped the vehicle for checking, and upon searching the money was found. After this the matter was informed to the Election Commission and Income Tax Department. The police seized the money and took it to the police station and started investigating the case along with other agencies.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Ankit Chauhan, the team of Sangam Vihar police station was checking vehicles on Mangal Bazar Road. Meanwhile, a car passed by, and on being suspicious the police signaled it to stop. The accused driver increased the speed of the vehicle, but the police stopped him. Police recovered Rs 47 lakh during search of the vehicle.
The police asked the accused driver Wasim about the money, but he could neither give any information nor present any document related to the money. In such a situation, due to the implementation of the code of conduct, the Election Commission and Income Tax Department were immediately informed.
Wasim and the recovered money reached the police station, where the Income Tax Department team started interrogating Wasim and a team counted the money. Till the time of writing the news, the work of counting the money was going on. Police and Income Tax Department teams are investigating the matter. It is being speculated that this amount was brought for use in Delhi Assembly elections.
