Navi Mumbai: This year, Navi Mumbai police had conducted several drives to trace out illegally staying South Africans and Bangladeshis and the ones found, were deported to their country. The officials had successfully deported 653 individuals residing illegally in the city which included, 639 African nationals, and 14 Bangladeshis.
To make it more stringent, the officials have now started recording the biometrics as well of the ones being deported. “We have started recording the biometrics since a month and are sending it to Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Mumbai so that the ones deported cannot come back to country through legal channel at least. The ones who still enter the country through illegal means, would be dealt with stringent action,” deputy commissioner of police (crime branch) Amit Kale, said.

Besides, the police have also given a proposal of 569 of them to be blacklisted. “Of the 569 proposed to be blacklisted, 496 have been blacklisted till now,” assistant commissioner of police (crime branch) Ajay Landge said.
In the month of December, in coordinated raids, action against 70 Africans was taken of which 16 were arrested and contraband worth Rs 13 crore was seized. Besides, 25 cases against illegal Bangladeshi nationals were registered in last two weeks. Of them 10 Bangladeshis including 8 women and 2 men, were deported. Additionally, documents of 55 Bangladeshi nationals—30 men and 25 women—are being verified by the department.
Navi Mumbai police has also urged residents to report any Bangladeshi or African nationals residing or working in their areas. “We are keeping a close watch on slum areas where illegal immigrants often reside. Both African and Bangladeshi nationals have been found in areas such as Taloja, Kharghar, Ulwe, Vashi, and Koparkhairane. We are mapping them regularly and keeping a tab of their activities. We have also started taking action against the house owners and estate agents who do not register the rent agreement and do not inform us about the stay of foreign nationals,” DCP Kale said.
