West Bengal: POCSO Court Sentences Capital Punishment for Accused in Minor’s Rape and Murder Case | Representative Image
Kolkata: Baruipur POCSO court in South 24 Parganas on Friday had ordered capital punishment for Mostakin Sardar, the key accused in rape and murder case of a minor girl in Kultali in Jaynagar in south 24 parganas. Advocate Biman Chattopadhyay talking to the media mentioned that the case was ‘rarest of rare’ and that the capital punishment was necessary.
“The judge before pronouncing the punishment had asked the accused if he wanted to say anything then the accused said that he was being framed. DNA and other things matched with the accused. The minor girl was misled while she was returning home by the accused then in an abandoned place he raped and had brutally killed the girl,” said the advocate.
Notably, the minor girl went missing on October 4 and that evening her body was found near her house. The accused was however, was found guilty under the BNS sections 103 (murder), 65 (rape) and 66 (punishment for causing death or resulting in a persistent vegetative state of the victim).
Welcoming the verdict, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee taking to X mentioned, “The accused in the case involving the brutal rape and murder of a minor girl in Joynagar on 4.10.24 has been sentenced to death today by the POCSO court at Baruipur just within 62 days of the ghastly incident. Conviction and capital punishment in such a case in just over two months is unprecedented in the history of the state. I congratulate the state police and all those involved in the prosecution process for this outstanding achievement. The Govt has zero tolerance towards offences against women and will continue to ensure that justice is neither delayed nor denied.”
Meanwhile, the parents of RG Kar rape and murder victim also got hopeful that their daughter will also get ‘justice’ and the culprits will be punished.
