Punjab National Bank (PNB), nation’s leading public sector bank, on Sunday celebrated the 76th Republic Day with fervour and enthusiasm at its headquarters in New Delhi. The celebration commenced with PNB MD & CEO Ashok Chandra unfurling the National Flag in the presence of Executive Directors, CVO, CGMs, and senior officials of the Bank.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashok Chandra, MD & CEO, PNB, said, “On this momentous occasion of the 76th Republic Day, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to every Indian. As we reminisce about our journey to freedom, we are reminded of the historic moment when India, under the visionary leadership of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, drafted a Constitution in 1949, laying the foundation for our sovereignty and fundamental rights. Today, as we honour the sacrifices of our heroes and the valour of our soldiers protecting the borders, let us also commit ourselves to building a developed India by 2047, when we celebrate 100 years of independence. From being underdeveloped to a developing nation, we are now on a determined path towards becoming a developed economy with a projected GDP of $30 trillion by 2047. This transformative journey presents a monumental opportunity for public sector banks like PNB to play a pivotal role. With 65% of our population in rural and semi-urban areas, and many still reliant on informal credit, we must step up to ensure financial inclusion for every Indian. Through initiatives like PM Vishwakarma Loan, PM SVANidhi, and by leveraging our robust network across North and North-East India, we can bridge these gaps and bring affordable financial services to the last mile. I urge the entire PNB Parivaar to take an oath to inculcate a culture of financial inclusion in every home we touch, strengthening our commitment to the Vikshit Bharat roadmap. Together, let us build a nation where every citizen has equitable access to opportunities and resources, fulfilling the vision of our forefathers and the aspirations of future generations.”
In addition, PNB, in collaboration with PNB PRERNA—an association comprising senior women officials of the Bank and the wives of senior bank officials—undertook multiple initiatives to support underserved communities. The Bank distributed 750 Happiness Kits and Happy Meals to underprivileged children in Delhi in collaboration with ISKCON Dwarka. The Bank raised awareness about noise pollution by promoting the No Honking Campaign with Raahgiri Foundation. As part of its commitment to road safety, PNB distributed helmets nationwide with the Helmet Man Foundation. PNB further empowered cancer patients with daily needs in partnership with CanSupport in Delhi-NCR and aimed to improve the health and nutrition among women under Project Poshan with Parichay Foundation. Furthering its focus on education, the Bank sponsored the education of eight children with the support of Auro-Mira Vidya Mandir, operated by the Auro-Mira Service Society. The Bank also provided computers to underprivileged children in partnership with Choudhary Foundation, empowering them with digital access and learning opportunities.
The celebrations also featured vibrant cultural performances by members of the PNB Parivaar, adding to the festive spirit of the occasion.
