HMPV In Pune: PMC Issues Guidelines, Reserves 50-Bed Isolation Ward At Naidu Hospital | Anand Chaini

In response to the detection of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases in India, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has heightened its preparedness and issued guidelines regarding the same. The civic body has also promptly reserved a 50-bed isolation ward at the Naidu Infectious Disease Hospital. However, the screening of passengers at Pune’s Lohegoan Airport has yet not begun, raising concerns about the potential spread of the virus.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Health Department has directed the PMC to reserve 350 beds at Naidu Hospital as a precautionary step. It has also issued guidelines to the citizens to follow preventive measures.

Dr Vaishali Jadhav, Assistant Health Officer at PMC and in charge of the epidemic control programme, said, “There are no cases in Pune, and a list of precautions has been issued to ensure the infection doesn’t spread. The PMC has urged people to cover their nose and mouth with a handkerchief while sneezing or coughing and thoroughly wash their hands. Avoid spitting and maintain hygienic practices”

“Airport screening has not started yet. There’s no need to panic. Everything is under control, and the decision for screening at the airports comes from Centre to state and then to us. We can’t make a decision, but it will be discussed in the next meeting,” added Jadhav.

While PMC has not sent any samples for laboratory testing, it is actively gathering information on potential cases. Citizens are advised to monitor symptoms like fever, cough, weakness, or respiratory issues and seek medical advice.
