(PM Surya Ghar Yojana: A subsidy ranging from ₹ 30,000 to ₹ 78,000 on the solar panel, know who will get benefits and how to benefit

PM Surya Ghar Yojana: The Central Government has launched “PM Surya Ghar: Free Power Scheme” with the aim of promoting solar energy in the country and providing relief to the common people from electricity bills. Under this ambitious scheme, the government aims to install solar panels on the roofs of one crore houses, which will provide them up to 300 units every month. Also, the government is also providing heavy subsidy to reduce the cost of installing solar panels.

How much will you get subsidy?

The subsidy found under PM Surya Ghar Scheme depends on the size of the solar system:

  • System up to 1 kW (KW): There will be a subsidy of ₹ 30,000 for this.

  • System up to 2 kW (KW): ₹ 30,000 for the first kilowatt and an additional ₹ 18,000 for the second kilowatt, ie a total of ₹ 48,000.

  • 3 kW (KW) or more system: A subsidy of ₹ 48,000 for the first two kW and ₹ 18,000 per extra kilowatt. However, the maximum subsidy is limited to ₹ 78,000 (for 3 kW).

Example:

  • If you install a 1.5 kw system, you will get a subsidy of ₹ 30,000 for 1 kW and ₹ 9,000 (half of ₹ 18,000) for the next 0.5 kW ie a total of ₹ 39,000.

  • If you install a 3 kw system, you will get a subsidy of ₹ 30,000 (first KW) + ₹ 18,000 (second KW) + ₹ 18,000 (Third KW) = ₹ 66,000. [Note: The original article and many sources state up to 78k for 3kW, which means 30k for 1st, 18k for 2nd, and 18k for 3rd, totaling 66k. The 78k might be a misunderstanding or refer to systems slightly larger than 3kW where the per kW subsidy for the 3rd kW is still 18k. The official portal states 30k for 1kW, 60k for 2kW, and 78k for 3kW and above. I will correct this based on the official portal’s subsidy structure of 30k/kW for the first 2kW and 18k/kW for the 3rd kW, making it 30k for 1kW, 60k for 2kW, and 78k for 3kW.]

Correct subsidy structure (according to the official portal):

  • To 1 kW (kW): ₹ 30,000

  • To 2 kW (kW): ₹ 60,000 (₹ 30,000 per kW)

  • 3 kW (KW) and more than: ₹ 78,000 (₹ 60,000 for the first 2 kW ₹ 18,000 for the third KW)

Who are the eligible and how to apply?

  • Eligibility:

    • The applicant should be an Indian citizen.

    • He must have a suitable roof for installing solar panels.

    • The family has not already taken advantage of any other solar subsidy.

  • Application process:

    7. After installing a net meter by discom and inspection, commissioning certificate will be issued from the portal.

    8. On receiving the commissioning report, submit a bank account details and a canceled check through the portal.

This scheme will not only reduce your electricity bill, but you will also become partners in the production of clean energy. This step of the government is an important initiative towards promoting renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions.
