Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Tamil Nadu on 6 April. On the occasion of Ramnavami, at around 12 noon, he will inaugurate the new Pambon Rail Bridge – India’s first vertical lift sea bridge. Modi will flag off a train and a ship from the road bridge and inspect the operation of the bridge. After this, he will visit and offer prayers at the Ramanathswamy temple in Rameswaram at around 12:45 pm. In Rameswaram at 1:30 pm, he will lay the foundation stone of various rail and road projects costing more than Rs 8,300 crore in Tamil Nadu and dedicate them to the nation. On this occasion, he will also address a public meeting.
The height of the lift is 17 meters.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the new Pamban rail bridge and will flag off the new Rameswaram-Tambaram (Chennai) rail service. This bridge has a deep cultural significance. According to the Ramayana, the construction of Ram Sethu started in Dhanushkodi near Rameswaram. This bridge connecting Rameswaram with the mainland stands as a remarkable achievement of Indian engineering on the global stage. It has been constructed at a cost of more than Rs 550 crore. It is 2.08 km long, it has 99 spans and its vertical lift is 72.5 meters, which goes to a height of 17 meters.
Hard marine environment can survive for a long time
This ensures smooth movement of ships and also ensures uninterrupted rail operations. Stainless steel reinforcement, high class protective paint and fully welded joints are more durable and the need for its maintenance is less. It is designed for dual rail tracks to meet future demands. A special polysiloxen coating protects it from rust, causing it to remain durable for a long time even in the rigid sea environment.
Economic activities of local leather and small scale industries will be promoted
The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of various rail and road projects costing more than Rs 8,300 crore in Tamil Nadu and dedicate them to the nation. These projects include making a 28 km long Valjapate-Ranipet section of NH-40 of four-lane, making four-lane 2 lane of 29 km of NH-332, four-lane, NH-32’s 57 km long Pundian Cupum-Sutanatnathpuram section of NH-32 of four lane and 48 km long Cholaparam-Tanjavur Khand of NH-36. This highway will connect many pilgrimage centers and tourist destinations, reduce the distance between cities and enable quick access to medical colleges and hospitals, ports. Additionally, this will help local farmers to purchase agricultural produce from nearest markets and will promote economic activities of local leather and small scale industries.
