PM Modi inaugurates Z Mod Tunnel: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Ganderbal Z-Mode Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir. Along with inaugurating this tunnel, PM Modi changed its name from Z-Mode Tunnel to Sonamarg Tunnel. With this tunnel, Sonamarg, a popular tourist attraction, will be open to visitors throughout the year.
Due to Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Kashmir, security forces have increased security in the valley. Dozens of checkpoints have been set up on the top four roads. After inaugurating the tunnel, the Prime Minister inspected the tunnel. Tight security arrangements were made near the tunnel area.
Z mode tunnels are extremely important
This Z Mode Tunnel is designed for all weather conditions. Now the highway will not be closed due to heavy snowfall in winter. After the opening of the tunnel, the journey of 12 kilometers will be reduced to 6.5 kilometers. Vehicles can cover this distance in 15 minutes. This tunnel will connect Ladakh to other parts of the country, this tunnel has been built at a cost of Rs 2400 crore.
1000 vehicles will be able to run
Its capacity is 1000 vehicles per hour. This tunnel is 10 meters wide and an escape tunnel of seven and a half meters has been made along with it. There is another tunnel under this scheme whose length is 14 km, it will go from Baltal via Zojila Pass via mini route to Dras. After the use of this tunnel, it will become very easy for the army to reach the border areas. With the opening of this tunnel their time will also be saved.
This project started in 2015
Let us tell you that after the completion of Zojila Tunnel, Srinagar-Leh road will remain open throughout the year. Work on the project began in May 2015. The construction work of the tunnel was completed last year i.e. in 2024. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, LG Manoj Sinha, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari were present on the occasion of inauguration of this tunnel.
