On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoured Mahavir, the 24th and final “tirthankar” in the Jain religion, on the anniversary of his birth, stating that his principles inspire innumerable individuals worldwide.
Modi took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to repost an archival video of his deep spiritual bond with Bhagwan Mahavir’s teachings and the Jain community. The video, posted by Modi Archie, stated, “”Deeply inspired by #BhagwanMahavir’s ideals of ahimsa, satya, and compassion, his (Modi) journey includes decades of heartfelt interactions with revered Jain Munis. Their wisdom continues to inspire his vision for a peaceful and inclusive India.”
Commenting on the video, PM expressed, “The ideals of Bhagwan Mahavir have greatly inspired countless people, including me. His thoughts show the way to build a peaceful and compassionate planet.”
Before this, Modi stated that his government would constantly work towards achieving the revered holy figure’s goal. He mentioned that Prakrit was given the status of a classical language by the government last year, a move that was warmly welcomed.
He stated, “We all bow to Bhagwan Mahavir, who always emphasised on non-violence, truth and compassion. His ideals give strength to countless people all around the world. His teachings have been beautifully preserved and popularised by the Jain community. Inspired by Bhagwan Mahavir, they have excelled in different walks of life and contributed to societal well-being,”
“Our Government will always work to fulfil the vision of Bhagwan Mahavir. Last year, we conferred the status of Classical Language on Prakrit, a decision which received a lot of appreciation,” Modi noted.
