Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a tour of Tamil Nadu on the occasion of Ram Navami today. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the much awaited new Pamban Rail Bridge. Which is India’s first vertical lift sea bridge. This bridge connects the mainland to Rameswaram Island. It is a modern symbol of connectivity and innovation in the coastal infrastructure. With the inauguration of the new Pamban Rail Bridge, Prime Minister Modi also flagged off the new Rameswaram-Tambaram (Chennai) rail service.
This bridge is about 2 kilometers long
This bridge, built at a cost of over Rs 700 crore, has 99 spans in this bridge. It has a state -of -the -art 72.5 meter vertical lift section. Due to this lift mechanism, it can be raised up to 17 meters, so that the ship can pass easily. Additionally, uninterrupted rail traffic is ensured.
Design differently
This sea bridge, about 2 km long, is designed with stainless steel reinforcement, anti -corrosion polysiloxen coating and fully welded joints. This bridge is durable for a long time. Its maintenance is also minimal.
Foundation of road projects
After the inauguration of this bridge, Prime Minister Modi will go to Rameswaram to offer prayers at the holy Ramanathswamy temple. After this, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone of rail and road projects worth more than Rs 8,300 crore and dedicate them to the nation.
National highway expansion
This development includes the expansion of major highways (national highways). Its purpose is to improve connectivity in Tamil Nadu. NH-40, under which the 28 km long Valjpet-Ranipet section is to be made four-lane. NH-332, which is a four-lane road on the 29 km long Vilupuram-Puducherry section. NH-32, which is 57 km long Pundiankupapam-Sutanatnathapuram section, will be dedicated. The Cholapuram-Tanjavur section, which is 48 km long, will be dedicated.
Cultural significance of Rameswaram and Prime Minister Modi
During his visit to Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Modi is not only throwing light on the cultural significance of Rameswaram. According to the Ramayana, it is believed that Ram Setu was built here.
