The beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme are eagerly waiting for the 19th installment. This scheme was launched by the Central Government in February 2019 with the aim of providing financial assistance to small and marginal farmers. Which farmers do not get the benefit of the scheme?

Not every farmer gets the benefit of the scheme. Here’s who has been excluded from the scheme:

  1. Taxpayers: If any member of the farmer family (husband, wife, and minor children) deposits income tax.
  2. Farmers without cultivable land: Those who do not have cultivable land in their own name.
  3. No two beneficiaries in the same family: Only one of the spouses gets the benefit of the scheme.
  4. Government employed farmers: Government employee farmers are not given the benefit of the scheme.
  5. Professionals like doctors, engineers, lawyers, CAs: These are excluded from the scheme.
  6. Pension holders: Farmers who receive pension of ₹10,000 or more annually.

What to do if the benefits of the scheme are availed unfairly?

If a farmer is taking advantage of this scheme unfairly, he can surrender it voluntarily. Process to surrender:

  1. Go to PM Kisan website.
  2. Click on the ‘Voluntary Surrender of PM Kisan Benefits’ tab.
  3. Enter your registration number and captcha code and receive OTP.
  4. Enter the OTP, after which you will see the details of all the installments received.
  5. ‘Do you wish to Surrender your PM-Kisan Benefit?’ Click on ‘Yes’ and enter OTP.
  6. After this, money transfer to your account will stop.

Transparency and objectives of the scheme

The objective of PM-Kisan scheme is to help the farmers in their financial needs. The government is making continuous efforts to implement it in a transparent and effective manner. This scheme is helpful in providing economic support to the farmers as well as strengthening food security.
