PLI Scheme: 2.5 lakh employment opportunities, 9 lakh farmers will be directly beneficiaries

News India Live, Digital Desk: Pli scheme: According to a senior official of the Union Food Processing Industry (MOFPI), the incentive (PLI) scheme related to the production of the Center for the Food Processing sector has so far been successful in attracting an investment of Rs 7,000 crore and generating more than 2.5 lakh jobs.

Ranjit Singh, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industry, said in his address to FICCI’s ‘Foodworld India’ program here, “So far, the ministry has funded about 1,600 projects, which has created 41 lakh tonnes of food processing capacity and about nine lakh farmers have benefited.”

Singh said, “The immense unused capacity of the Indian agriculture sector highlights that domestic manufacturing can play an important role, when it is given adequate support by competent government policies. With targeted interventions, the region can contribute to make India self -reliant and make global food baskets.”

He highlighted the role of food processing in global markets as well as increasing the value of agricultural products as well as the role of food processing in increasing the favorable demand for Indian products. “Therefore, to realize its ability, we should continue to advance processing, packaging, storage and distribution, so that we are able to meet both domestic and international standards,” he said.

Singh further said that the Ministry of Food Processing Industry is implementing initiatives like Kisan Sampada Yojana, which is a comprehensive plan to create cold chains, agricultural processing clusters, food testing bodies and supporting research and development in the field. The Ministry is also running the formalities of Prime Minister Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) to promote infrastructure development, innovation and entrepreneurship in the food processing sector across the country.

He said that these schemes have also helped in converting many small companies into medium -sized companies. The PMFME scheme has assisted about two lakh micro enterprises through credit-linked subsidies and infrastructure construction in the last five years.
