Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): A fire broke out on Thursday in a heap of plastic pipes used for sewerage during the last Simhastha Mahaparv in Ujjain. The fire spread due to a large number of pipes. The flames and smoke were visible from afar.

It took 6 fire tenders to douse the blaze. Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) has a water filtration plant in village Ambodia, some 14 km from here. The pipes used for sewerage line during Simhastha festival in 2016 were kept there.

On Thursday afternoon, the heap of pipes was engulfed in flames. The fire spread rapidly due to being plastic. The pipes were kept in the custody of PHED (rural) at the plant located in Ambodia which suddenly caught fire this afternoon.

On receiving information from residents of Ambodia village, the team of UMC’s PHE department and fire brigade reached the spot. Five fire tenders and two water lorries of the fire brigade unit reached the spot and controlled the fire. The fire was doused with great difficulty. Deputy-commissioner Manoj More reached the spot and there has been no damage or loss of any kind.

Commissioner Ashish Pathak said that pipes kept at the plant located in Ambodia caught fire on Thursday afternoon due to unknown reasons. As soon as information was received, the fire brigade of the UMC reached the spot and controlled the fire. The water distribution system will remain smooth, there has been no problem of any kind in it, he clarified.
