News India Live, Digital Desk: Pitru Paksha 2025: Pitra Paksha has special significance in Hinduism. This is the time of 15 days of worshiping the ancestors and expressing respect for them. Pitra Paksha 2025 dates:
- Start: 7 September 2025 (Bhadrapada Purnima)
- Closing: 21 September 2025 (Sarva Pitra Amavasya)
The full moon date of Bhadrapada month will start late on September 7 at 1:41 pm and will remain till 11:38 pm on the same day. Therefore, Pitru Paksha will start from 7 September and run till 21 September.
Workable work in Pitru Paksha:
- Shraddha and tarpan: For the peace of the soul of the ancestors, perform Shraddha and Tarpan.
- The offering of libations of water to the gods: Do pindadan during Shraddha Karma.
- Charity: Donate food, clothes, gold-silver, sesame, ghee, oil, jaggery, salt, land etc. to the needy.
- Brahmin banquet: It is also considered auspicious to organize a Brahmin banquet during the days of Shraddha.
- Food for animals and birds: Make sure to remove food for cow, crow, ant and dogs.
Special rules in Pitru Paksha:
- Read the seventh chapter of Pitra Chalisa or Gita daily in Pitrupaksha. This gives salvation to the ancestors.
- During this time, marriage, engagement, shaving, home entry and any new work should not be started.
- Avoid buying any new goods, jewelry, clothes etc.
- Do not consume meat and alcohol at all.
