In a shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district, a shocking video has surfaced online, has brought attention to the menace posed by aggressive dogs. The now viral video showed a terrifying moment when a Pitbull brutally attacked a child inside a residential society’s premises. A group of children was playing in the building when the dog sneakily targeted one child, knocking him to the ground and continuing its attack.
A woman witnessing the attack rushed to intervene, attempting to free the child from the dog’s grip. However, her efforts failed as the Pitbull’s hold was too strong. After few seconds, more people joined in rescuing the child from the dogs grip and somehow succeeded. In the video the attacked kid could be seen limping. The video has raised concerns about the safety risks posed by aggressive dog breeds.
It remains unclear whether any legal action has been taken in this case or if there were specific triggers for the Pitbull’s attack.
The viral nature of the video, initially shared by @snehamordani on X (formerly Twitter), has once again brought back the debate about the presence of dangerous dog breeds as pets in India. In her post, the user questioned, “Why on earth are Pitbulls still being allowed to be kept as pets? Aren’t they banned?”
In 2023, the Indian government took steps to address the growing number of aggressive dog attacks, particularly targeting children and the elderly, some of which resulted in fatalities. The Centre announced a ban on the import, sale, and breeding of 23 “ferocious” dog breeds, citing them as a “threat to human life.”
The banned breeds include Rottweilers, Pitbulls, Terriers, Wolf Dogs, Russian Shepherds, and Mastiffs, as well as their mixed and crossbreeds. The move was implemented primarily to ensure public safety, as these breeds have been involved in numerous attacks causing severe injuries and fatalities. Known for their strong protective instincts and territorial behavior, these dogs often display aggressive tendencies, posing a significant threat to communities.
