The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have got possession of 15 acres of Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) land in Wakad for constructing residential quarters for its staff and official buildings.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on its official handle, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police wrote, “Pleased to announce that Pimpri-Chinchwad Police got possession of 15 acres of PMRDA land today in Wakad for constructing residential quarters for its staff and officers along with some office buildings, for which a grant was passed earlier this year. This serves as an enabler in laying as well as fortifying the strong foundations of #PCCityPolice.”
Earlier this year, the Maharashtra government’s revenue department allocated nine acres of land in Chikhali for the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate. This site is supposed to house offices for the commissioner, additional commissioner, deputy commissioner, special branch, crime branch, cyber police station and the accounts department.
Established on August 15, 2018, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate currently operates from a school building run by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The police department pays the civic body around ₹3.80 lakh in monthly rent for this building.
The dedicated Police Commissionerate was established to meet the growing demand for specialised law enforcement services in the twin city and surrounding areas. The jurisdiction of the Pimpri-Chinchwad police extends beyond the civic limits, covering rural areas of Pune and industrial zones like Chakan and Talegaon Dabhade MIDCs.
