The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police took to its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday and stated that it has arrested 33 “illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators” in 10 cases in 2024. The cops also stated that they had cancelled 62 passports obtained illegally by Bangladeshi citizens.

“Pimpri-Chinchwad Police’s Anti-Terror Branch in line with its ‘Absolute Zero Tolerance’ stance on anything related to national security in our jurisdiction has arrested 33 illegal Bangladeshi & Rohingya nationals in 10 cases over the past year,” read the post.

“For the first time in the country, #PCCityPolice has cancelled 62 passports obtained illegally by Bangladeshi citizens. Congratulations to the entire team… Our relentless efforts to keep the country safe by taking action against the infiltrators residing in Pimpri-Chinchwad will continue,” it added.

Meanwhile, in a recent case, three alleged Bangladeshi nationals, working at a private company in Talegaon MIDC in Pimpri-Chinchwad, were nabbed. They were identified as Hussain Shaikh (31), Monirul Gazi (26) and Amirul Sana (34).

As per a press release from the police, a Bangladeshi passport was seized from a suspect. Also, Bangladeshi birth certificates and other documents showing that the suspects were natives of Bangladesh were seized from their possession. It was found that the accused made several cell phone calls to people in Bangladesh.

Further investigation revealed that the accused came to India from Bangladesh by crossing the international border in West Bengal without any essential permissions and documents about four years ago. They then obtained forged Indian birth certificates and used them to obtain Aadhaar and PAN cards.

The accused took up jobs at a private company in Talegaon MIDC. Earlier, some Rohingyas, who had infiltrated India via Bangladesh, were found to be working in the same company.

In another case, a Rohingya man was arrested for allegedly living in India illegally. A probe revealed that one of them, Muzammil Khan (45), had purchased a small plot of land in a Dehu Road locality for Rs 80,000 and built a house using earnings from his supari-selling business. He and his wife had acquired Aadhaar and PAN cards, in addition to Indian passports. They had been living in the area since 2013.

Khan told police he fled Myanmar with his family in 2012, seeking shelter in a refugee camp in Bangladesh before crossing the border illegally and entering West Bengal. After arriving in Pune, he worked in a company and later got into the supari trade. The couple acquired Aadhaar and PAN cards from Bhiwandi.

The Khan couple’s arrest followed the arrest of Ismail alias Shahid Shaikh, a Rohingya who along with his wife was suspected to have entered India illegally. Both the couples were booked under the Passport Act and the Foreigners Act.
