Kolkata: Two PILs have been filed in Calcutta High Court on Monday over administration of the expired saline at the state government hospital at Midnapore which had killed one pregnant woman and left three other pregnant women critically ill.
Division bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam had permitted filing of the plea and will hear the same on January 16.
Talking to the media, advocate and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kautav Bagchi said, “We demanded formation of SIT. Also wanted CBI probe in the incident and Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe in the money laundering involved in it.”
Notably, the three critical women were shifted to SSKM hospital on Sunday late evening where they remain in critical condition.
SSKM director Monimoy Bandhopadhyay said that from five, an eight- member team comprising specialists have been made who are monitoring the critically affected women.
Bandhopadhyay also confirmed the women continue to be in serious condition.
Meanwhile, a high-level meeting is going on at Swasthya Bhawan over the incident.
The state government has formed a 13-member committee to investigate the matter. Preliminary findings suggest that the women were administered Ringer’s lactate intravenous solution, after which their condition deteriorated.
Chief Secretary Manoj Pant along with Health Secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam said that those who are involved in using products from a banned company will be punished.
“We will have to get the full report first before taking any action. None involved in the scam will be spared. The Departmental Committee will look into the technical or the treatment part and CID will look into the entire matter. After we get the report we will take necessary actions,” said Pant.
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari demanded resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from her role as also the health minister.
