How are the prices of petrol and diesel fixed?
Fuel prices in India are decided by government companies like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum. These companies change prices every day keeping in mind the price of crude oil in the international market, dollar-rupaya exchange rate, transportation cost and tax.
However, for the last few years, the rule of daily changes in petrol and diesel prices in India is no longer strictly applicable. Earlier, new prices were released every morning at 6 am, but now there is no change for weeks many times.
