On the morning of 26 March 2025, the same old view was revealed again for millions of drivers and common consumers of the country – the prices of petrol and diesel have not been changed even today. Oil companies have released latest rates, but did not get relief despite expectations.
Stir in international market, domestic prices stable
Crude oil prices are seeing fluctuations around the world. Sometimes prices are increasing, sometimes there is a decline. Despite this, petrol and diesel prices for Indian consumers still remain stable. From this, it can be gauged that the government and oil companies are not in the mood to change prices at the moment.
When was the last change?
If we talk about the last time amendment, then the last change in prices of petrol and diesel was made in March 2024. At that time the oil companies had cut Rs 2 per liter, which was felt by the general public as a relief. But since then there has been no new change, due to which people have started expecting next relief.
Current price of petrol and diesel in big cities (rupees per liter):
City | Petrol (₹) | Diesel (₹) |
---|---|---|
Delhi | 94.72 | 87.62 |
Mumbai | 103.44 | 89.97 |
Kolkata | 103.94 | 90.76 |
Chennai | 100.85 | 92.44 |
Bengaluru | 102.86 | 88.94 |
Lucknow | 94.65 | 87.76 |
Noida | 94.87 | 88.01 |
Gurugram | 95.19 | 88.05 |
Chandigarh | 94.24 | 82.40 |
Patna | 105.18 | 92.04 |
Any type of difference in these rates is because tax rates are different in every state, which makes a difference to fuel prices.
How are prices fixed?
Government oil companies like Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum in India determine daily petrol and diesel prices. Many international and domestic factors are taken into consideration while calculating them, such as:
-
Crude oil prices in international market
-
Rupee exchange rate against dollar
-
Tax imposed by central and state government
-
Transportation and refining expenses
On the basis of all these elements, new prices are released every day around 6 am.
There is no relief at the moment, what will happen next?
So far there has been no indication from the government or oil companies that prices will be changed in the coming days. However, if there is a major fall in the prices of crude oil internationally, consumers can get relief.
