Petrol-DIESEL Price 17 April 2025: The decline of global crude oil does not show effect, petrol and diesel rate did not change again

17 April 2025: Even today the general public has not got any relief regarding petrol and diesel prices. While crude oil prices in the global market have fallen below $ 65 per barrel, Indian consumers are not getting any effect in the domestic market. Once again, there has been no change in the prices of petrol and diesel, due to which customers have disappointed.

The price of crude oil falls drastically, no relief

For the last few months, there is a huge decline in the prices of crude oil in the international market. Currently, the rate of crude oil has reached below $ 65 per barrel, which is the lowest level of the last four years. In such a situation, the common people were expecting that perhaps there will be relief in the prices of petrol and diesel. But government oil companies have not amended the prices.

This situation indicates that fuel prices in India are not only based on the rate of crude oil, but it also includes several other factors such as tax structure, refining cost, transportation and margin of dealer. This is the reason that despite the fall at the global level, there is no change in the domestic market.

Why are consumers not getting benefit?

This question is bound to arise in the minds of the general public-when crude oil has become cheaper, then why not petrol and diesel? There are many major reasons behind this:

  1. Tax Structure: The central and state governments in India impose heavy taxes on petrol and diesel. This is about 45–60% of the total price.
  2. Revenue means: Tax from petrol and diesel is a major revenue source for the government. In such a situation, reducing prices can affect the government’s budget.
  3. Long stability: There has been no major change in the prices of petrol and diesel since March last year. That is, the government wants to maintain stability.
  4. Political Factor: Many times the government keeps fuel prices stable due to electoral reasons.
