The central government has increased excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per liter. Central Excise Under Secretary Dheeraj Sharma has also issued a notice in this regard. This order will be applicable today i.e. from April 8. However, the government says that this additional burden will not affect the consumers.

According to an official order, the government on Monday increased excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per liter. The order states that excise duty on petrol has been increased to Rs 13 per liter and diesel by Rs 10 per liter. However, the order does not state what effect it will have on retail prices. But the government says that there will be no change in retail prices. Increase in excise duty will be adjusted with a decrease in petrol and diesel prices due to a fall in international oil prices.

It may be noted that on Monday 7 April, there was a big earthquake in the stock market. There was a tense atmosphere since morning. Initially, the Sensex saw a decline of about 4000 points. The Nifty also declined drastically. This is the biggest decline in the stock market since the beginning of June. Amidst all this, the news of increasing excise duty on petrol and diesel increased the concern of the people.
