Urmila Matondkar’s comment on nepotism: Urmila Matondkar has been a famous actress of the 90s, she has ruled millions of hearts with her acting talent but she has always regretted one thing. In an interview, Urmila had said that ‘at that time I was given the tag of sex siren and item girl. My work includes films like Kon?, Bhoot, Ek Hasina Thi, Pinjar, Rangeela, Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Mara but still I was seen as an item girl or sex siren.

Rangeela is also about a common girl who dreams big. The sexy image you see of them is their screen image or an imagination of a character. I am happy that today there is a deep understanding and different perspective towards women in the media. Otherwise my work was ignored and tagged.

Urmila also talked about the rumors of her strained relationship with Ram Gopal Varma and said, ‘There is no fight between us. I have also done a special song in his film Company Aur Aag. The media of the 90s was fascinated by everything about me except my acting talent. Today people talk openly about nepotism. Even then, there were actors around me who were from film families. People could not digest my middle-class identity. I have achieved this position on my own without any support. I will proudly say that I am a star made by the people. My work always speaks.
