Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) spokesperson Amir Mir and Chief Financial Officer Javed Murtaza held a press conference on March 20, Thursday as they blasted the Indian media for spreading false propaganda about their nation suffering losses amid Champions Trophy. Mir revealed that they have received 3 Billion PKR from hosting the eight-team tournament.

The PCB had reportedly invested plenty of money in reconstructing the stadiums ahead of the Champions Trophy to give the touring teams the best facilities. However, three of the matches scheduled to take place in Pakistan went in no result due to persistent showers, including two without a match being bowled. Additionally, Lahore couldn’t host the final either as Team India managed to get there and the BCCI refused to send its team to Pakistan, citing security concerns.

Nevertheless, during the press conference, Mir said the PCB expected a profit of PKR 2 Billion and that a profit of above that means they are amongst the richest boards in the world. He said, as quoted by CricketPakistan.pk:

“All expenses for the tournament were covered by the ICC. The PCB generated revenue through gate money and ticket sales. Additionally, after the audit, we expect to receive another Rs 3 billion from the ICC. With this financial strength, PCB now ranks among the top three richest cricket boards in the world. The board has also paid Rs 40 million in taxes.”
