According to the information, on April 2, a passenger from London to Mumbai got a panic attack in VS 358, due to which a medical emergency situation arose and after technical inspection the aircraft was sent to the remote Turkish Diyarbakir airport. This airport lacks the infrastructure required to deal with such situations. Due to which there was a delay in arranging alternative flights here.
In this regard, Virgin Atlantic said that it is in the process of arranging all options including alternative aircraft to take those passengers to Mumbai. The Indian Embassy in Ankara said in a post on the social media platform X that Indian officials are in touch with the officials of Diyarbakir.
However, a user reacted to this post and said that for the first five hours, all the passengers sat inside the flight. After this, all the passengers were asked to come down. However, even after the last 15 hours, no basic facilities have been collected in the airport terminal. The flight stood 200 Indian passengers including a pregnant woman. Another passenger said, “We have been stranded here for 18 hours.” The airline has not yet announced any alternative arrangement. Therefore, all the passengers are uncertain about their further journey. At the airport terminal where we have been stopped. We are not even getting proper water and food there. Therefore children, women and elders suffer the most. Therefore, many passengers have shared their problems and requested the authorities to make arrangements for immediate transport. Additionally, a user said that there is no accommodation here and they cannot even go out of the airport, as it is a military base.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government also took cognizance of the matter. In which Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured him of appropriate help in this matter. Therefore, the Ministry of Civil Aviation of India has also deployed a nodal officer to handle the situation. It is noteworthy that this is not the first time that Indian travelers are stranded at Turkish airport. In December last year, more than 400 Indian passengers had to stay at Istanbul Airport for 18 hours.
