Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal (PKC) river link project, signed in presence of PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday in Jaipur, will provide irrigation facilities to 27,000 hectares in the district covering 75 villages. The project will also provide drinking water.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma were also present at the programme organised in Jaipur. To mark the occasion, a district-level farmers’ conference was organised in Indore district where thousands of farmers took part and watched the programme being held in Jaipur, live.
Collector Asheesh Singh, CEO district panchayat Siddharth Jain vice president Bharat Singh Patel, deputy director of Agriculture SS Rajput, executive engineer of Water Resources department Kamal Kuwal along with other officers, public representatives and a large number of farmers were present.
The farmers were informed that the project will be called ‘Bachhoda Depalpur Micro Irrigation Project’ in the district. The Madhya Pradesh government has approved Rs 1538.59 cr for the project under the revised Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project (PKC).
Under the scheme, it is proposed to store 92.99 million cubic metres of water by constructing a barrage at Bachhoda (near Limbodapar) and by increasing the height of Depalpur pond, which would be made a balancing reservoir to store the rainwater of Chambal river.
Water would be pumped to the pond. The water for irrigation would be provided through underground pipes. Farmers will be able to irrigate through drip or sprinkler methods.
