News India Live, Digital Desk: The birth anniversary of Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is being celebrated with reverence and enthusiasm all over the country today. Lord Parashurama has special significance in Sanatan Dharma. It is said that this incarnation of Lord Vishnu killed the wicked from the earth and protected humanity. Parashurama is considered a supreme devotee of Lord Shiva and a very obedient son of parents.
Why did Mother Renuka slaughter?
According to mythology, Parashuram was the son of sage Jamadagni and mother Renuka. Once Mata went to bathe in Renuka River, where she saw King Chitraratha playing boating. For a moment, a sense of attraction towards the king arose in his mind. On returning to the ashram, Rishi Jamadagni understood Renuka’s emotions from a divine point of view and ordered his sons to kill Renuka.
The elder sons rejected this order. The sage eventually ordered his youngest son Parashurama. Following the father’s orders, Parashuram separated his mother’s head without hesitation. The enraged sage Jamadagni cursed him to be discretionary.
Mother’s revival and boon
Pleased with this immense reverence and obedience of his son, Rishi Jamadagni asked Parashurama to ask for a boon. Then Parashuram immediately prayed to revive his mother. The sage gladly accepted this boon and Mother Renuka again came alive.
The attainment of ‘Parshu’ and freedom from sin
However, Parashuram was sinned by maternal murder due to the killing of mother. To get rid of this defect, he did harsh penance to Lord Shiva. Shiva was pleased with his penance and freed him from this sin. At the same time, Lord Shiva provided him with divine weapon ‘Parashu’ (Farsa), which gave him ‘Parashurama’.
On Parashuram Jayanti, this episode related to his life is remembered and blessings are sought from him.
