The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner, Mangesh Chitale, has announced a budget of Rs. 3,873.86 crore for the city. The budget emphasizes transforming Panvel into a livable city, with a focus on revenue growth, public welfare projects, healthcare improvements, and disaster management. The budget, which was presented during the Administrative Standing Committee meeting, aims to enhance infrastructure, promote environmental sustainability, and improve public services without imposing any new taxes.

The budget allocates significant funds for infrastructure projects across Panvel. A new administrative building- Swarajya will be constructed at a cost of Rs.158 crore. An additional Rs.38 crore has been reserved for the construction of the Mayor’s residence and new ward offices. Road development remains a priority, with Rs.437 crore set aside for concrete and asphalt roads, while Rs.57 crore has been allocated for sports facilities.

To improve civic amenities, Rs.14 crore has been earmarked for a city library and auditorium in Kharghar. Other major allocations include funds for the construction of Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Bhavan and Punyashlok Rajmata Ahilyadevi Holkar Hall. Additionally, Rs.17.50 crore has been set aside for a flood control dam and pumping station along the Gadhi River, and Rs.35 crore has been designated for dredging and related measures at Kalamboli’s holding pond.

Solid Waste Management and Public Health

To strengthen cleanliness initiatives, PMC has prioritized waste management and public health services. Mega sweeping machines will be procured for four wards, with Rs.11.38 crore allocated for dust control measures. In partnership with CIDCO, PMC will implement a Waste-to-Energy project with an allocation of Rs.10 crore.

A total of Rs.221 crore has been proposed for solid waste collection, transportation, and workforce management. Additionally, healthcare services have received a significant boost, with Rs.126 crore allocated for medical facilities. Rs.17.50 crore has been designated for a 450-bed mother and child care hospital, and Rs.10 crore has been set aside for a 50-bed hospital in Kalamboli. Construction of Urban Primary Health Centers (UPHCs) in Kalundre, New Panvel, and Kharghar is already underway.

Fire and Safety Management

PMC has set aside Rs.39 crore to strengthen fire and emergency services. This includes the purchase of an advanced fire engine, an emergency rescue tender, and a 22-meter turntable ladder vehicle. Rs.7.35 crore has been allocated for acquiring a water bowser, while funds have been earmarked for the purchase of a 70-meter aerial ladder platform for fire and emergency rescue operations. Rs.17 crore has also been designated for a new fire station in Kamothe.

Underground Drainage and Sewage Management

PMC has allocated Rs.178 crore for underground drainage and sewage management. Rs.40 crore has been set aside for a 15 MLD wastewater recycling plant under the Kamothe Sewage Treatment Center, while Rs.25.49 crore will be used for a 6.5 MLD sewage treatment center in Sectors 19, 20, and 21 of the municipal area.

Education and Related Facilities

The budget supports educational infrastructure with an allocation of Rs.34 crore for constructing new school buildings. An additional Rs.83 crore has been earmarked for upgrading municipal schools, covering teacher salaries, and implementing skill development programs. Rs.10.72 crore has been designated for repairing schools built by the Raigad Zilla Parishad within PMC limits.

Security and Surveillance

To enhance public safety, PMC is implementing a citywide CCTV surveillance system at major junctions, entry points, and municipal offices. A budget of Rs.107 crore has been allocated for this initiative.

“We aim to create a more sustainable and efficient urban environment while prioritizing citizen welfare and infrastructure development with this budget,” the commissioner said while presenting the budget.
